FPV DRONE

                                       First Person View Applications

INTRODUCTION

If you are new to the RC world or have been involved or around it for some time, you may have heard or seen the abbreviation FPV (First Person View) but may have wondered what does that really mean.
What actually is FPV ?   - can also be referred to as first person point of view (POV).
FPV Defined - Gives a particular user, using a certain piece of technology the capability to see visuals beyond or outside the realm of  their physical location, such as live video from an airborne drone camera or possibly a character in a video game.
UAV's (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) commonly referred to as r/c drones or airplanes, FPV drones are widely used today with their mobility and flight characteristics to capture video and imagery in hard to get to areas that otherwise may be inaccessible, therefore offering an affordable option for amateur pilots and R/C enthusiasts to obtain stunning aerial photography.
FPV Drone racing has become very popular in recent years and is growing quite rapidly.
FPV is used and is common in a number of video games allowing users the opportunity to play the part of a particular character.
There are a number of FPV applications featured today, in many vehicles today cameras are mounted on the rear of the vehicle, while feeding live images to the cab of the vehicle to assist you while backing your vehicle.

When it comes to UAV's ( Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) commonly known as r/c drones or airplanes, major breakthrough's have been made with FPV (First Person View) Technology opening up a whole new phenomenon delivering stunning aerial video and imagery.
This new Technology is implemented with a camera mounted or attached to a UAV which transfers live video feed to the pilot positioned on the ground. Giving pilots an on-board feel as if there were actually seated inside the UAV.
All of this is accomplished with small cameras with wireless links.

FPV and Video Games

Video Game FPV

Much like a FPV Drone, video games provide a realistic view for gamers as if they were actually a character involved in a real life situation.
Games with a FPV perspective allows the player or gamer to see what the character would see with his own eyes. Players typically cannot see the characters body, but it is possible at times to see things like weapons or his hands.
Video games are primarily used as entertainment, focused more on relaxation and fun.
Video games provide a sense of gratification, but hold no real value or consequence which allows people to release stress and wind down after a long stressful day at work .

Drone Race

When you think about FPV, the first thing that comes to mind is FPV racing which has become an extremely popular sport as of late, pilots compete and race small quadcopters around a preset track.
An FPV drone used for racing requires a set of FPV goggles that aids a pilot as he maneuvers through and around the race course.
For the best flying experience and view, it is important that the FPV goggles allow each eye pupil to be positioned correctly within the exit pupils of the goggles. If they don't fit your eyes properly your FPV experience may be disappointing.  Advanced IPD is recommended.

DRONES WITH CAMERA

If racing does not appeal to you, there are many sport and professional type drones on the market today equipped with cameras for a unique flying experience.
You don't have to be a professional pilot or photographer to experience the fun of Radio Control flying.
There are many Ready to Fly Drones that are designed with beginners in mind.
Drones sometimes referred to as quadcopters have a number of innovative features including various flight modes, from beginner mode, to fast or sport mode, and last but not least expert mode.
4K Camera with Gimbal
I personally like these models, because if your a beginner you can enhance your skills and move on to the next level without having to purchase several drones. The Latrax Alias and Traxxas Aton are 2 models that come to my mind.
Other nice features may include, auto takeoff, altitude hold, and return to home. These are all great features that beginners and even advanced pilots really enjoy.
I personally am a sport flyer but from time to time it is nice to capture aerial video or still images. Many models are multi-functional, they can provide amazing speed and aerobatics one moment, and be in the air capturing aerial imagery in the next.

FINAL THOUGHTS

As you can attest there are several options and applications for FPV and a FPV Drone.
In the R/C industry there are a variety of models, with a wide array of features, for a diverse set of pilots looking for there own unique experience.
